Running!

After nearly two weeks off, I ran again today! It was wonderful! I hit the treadmill with "Kung Fu Panda" playing on the tv and got in 5 miles of intervals. Other than a few coughs, it was pretty easy. I will resume my training schedule this week and am looking forward to getting in a few outside runs. As long as the temps are above 20 degrees, I'm good. Bonus, we are supposed to get snow several times this week, and I love running when it snows!

I don't think I mentioned it in my other posts, but I am training for the Myrtle Beach Marathon. It is during our February break and I have been in a bit of a panic. See, I signed up for the race back in October and hired a coach on the internet to help me reach my goal of 5 hours. I know, not very fast, but fast for me. So anyways, I was going along great in my training. I was really hitting a groove with the schedule and runs he had set up for me. While they never got easy, I was feeling stronger and more confident that I could actually pull this off.

And then we had a few days of major snow. White out conditions. Dangerous for drivers and runners alike. I have a Y membership, but sensibly, they have a 30 minute limit on the TMs when they are full - and they always are in bad weather. So I just sucked it up for a week and tried to get back out the next. Meanwhile, I talked to my husband about getting a used TM off Craiglist for Christmas. But then the bitter cold started. Our warmest days that week were in the single digits. So I talked with my husband again about the TMs. Since we live in a very rural area, there were only a few used ones available and they were snapped up quickly. I picked out a nice one on sale at Dick's and brought it home. Only to promptly get bronchitis less than a week later! Yikes! This was really worrying me!

After talking to the coach again, I took the rest of the year off to recover. And now I'm finished the antibiotics, using albuterol every day and breathing easier. The run today reassured me that I haven't lost all my fitness. And my schedule may be delayed, but I think I may be able to get close to my goal or at least finish the race.
